Defensive miscues cost Garden City on the road

Great Bend, KS-The Broncbusters played even with the 14th-ranked team in the country for much of the first half. But two defensive lapses proved costly.  

Joaquin Pico Abedul and Gonzalo Bassa scored goals for Barton, and the Cougars blanked Garden City, 2-0 to improve to 6-3-0 overall and 2-3-0 in conference. The Broncbusters dropped to 4-3-2 overall and 0-3-2 in the Jayhawk.  

The first defensive miscue happened with less than 30 seconds to play before halftime when Garden City failed to clear. Moments later, Abedul crossed up keeper, Ilham Brenbraham to make it 1-0.  

Barton extended the lead in the 75th minute when Hugo Pacheco's pass split two defenders before landing on the right foot of Gonzalo Bassa, who then blasted the ball by Brenbraham for a 2-0 advantage. 

Garden City failed to register a shot after that.  

The Cougars outshot the Broncbusters, 11-10 and had seven more corners (9-2). Brenbraham tallied four saves.
