KJCCC Conference Athletes of the Week, Week 13, 2021
(KJCCC) April 21, 2021 – Big-time plays and days by our conference athletes that lead to recognition in Week 10 of the KJCCC Athletes of the Week voting.
Football Athletes of the Week
OFFENSE
Mike Irwin - Garden City
Mike Irwin replaced the injured Devin Larsen in the second half on Saturday night. With his team facing a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit at No. 7 Independence, the Oregon transfer delivered, tossing a pair of touchdowns over the final 15 minutes that helped the Broncbusters to their first come-from-behind victory of 2021.
DEFENSE
Keylon Kennedy - Garden City
Keylon Kennedy, the No. 1-ranked junior college corner, came up big agaisnt No. 7 Independence, intercepting Indy quarterback Brock Domann at the 1-yard line before recovering the game-winning fumble in the end zone in the final seconds as the Pirates were about to score.

Division I Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week
Player: Kadin Stinson (Barton)
Kadin Stinson scored a pair of goals in each of Barton's contest helping the Cougars remaining unbeaten on the season at 5-0-1. Netting both of the game winners, in Saturday's 3-2 win over Johnson County Stinson scored both the first and last net rattlers delivering the clutch difference maker with 4:57 remaining.
Goalkeeper: Nia Baker (Barton)
Freshman Nia Baker stayed unbeaten in goal this season turning back six shots in Barton's 2-0 week.
Division II Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week
Player: Dot Usher (Allen)
Dot Usher has showed to be a consistent goal scorer, posting consecutive hat tricks and three in the last four games while still contributing with assists in every game. She is an all-around true striker holding the ball up well and being clinical in zone 14.
Goalkeeper: Pheonix Michaelis (Allen)
Pheonix continues to organize well in the back line and manages the 18-yard box with a great option as a drop pass to really open things up for our distribution. She pushed a well-placed volley of the cross bar with ease early in the Pratt game which helped keep the momentum in our favor.
Division I Men's Soccer Athletes of the Week
Allen goalkeeper Ajay Murray has played every minute of the conference/region games and has not given up a goal. He has a 100% save rate on shots faced this season and does an excellent job of controlling the box. Last week, he posted two more shutouts, saving all 11 shots he faced.
Barton's Felipe D'Agnostic netted the eventual game winner Wednesday at Dodge City and put two goals on the board Saturday hosting Johnson County. In Dodge City, D'Agostini helped Barton build a 2-0 lead just six minutes into the second half by one-timing a throw-in to launch a laser from outside the corner of the eighteen to far post. On Saturday, D'Agostini showed off footwork control in the box to outmaneuver the Johnson County keeper to find the net for his first goal then later would score his second on positioning himself for a rebound in blasting in the Cougars' sixth goal of the afternoon.

Division I Softball Athletes of the Week
Player: Madison Grimes (Hutchinson) - The second-leading hitter in the NJCAA hit .643 in a 3-1 week for the Blue Dragons. She had an on-base percentage of .667 and had a slugging percentage of 1.500 in going 9 of 14 with three doubles, three home runs with 13 RBIs and eight runs scored. Grimes had two three-hit games and four multi-RBIS games. She had a grand slam in a 9-8 win over Barton.
Pitcher: Maddie Redman (Butler) - Maddie Redman, sophomore pitcher from Stillwell, OK, remained perfect in the circle for the No. 4-ranked Grizzlies as she improved to 13-0 on the season throwing eight innings of three hit softball last week. She pitched a perfect three innings in game one throwing five strikeouts and pitched a no run five innings in game two allowing just three hits while striking out eight. Redman has struck out 72 batters on the season while walking just four.

KJCCC Division II Softball Player of the Week
Kimberlin Hopson, Hesston College Freshman Third Base, Sanger, TX - Hesston freshman Kimberlin Hopson went 11-of-24 on the week. She also hit four home runs and drove in 17 runs. Kimberlin helped lead the Larks to a 6-2 record on the week with the help of her big time hitting. Hopson finished with two multi homerun games on the week.
KJCCC Division II Softball Pitcher of the Week
Katelyn Kotlarz, Labette Community College Freshman Pitcher, Mt. Vernon, MO - Katelyn Kotlarz had a stellar outing against No. 12 ranked KCK this past Saturday with 11 strikeouts and giving up only three hits scattered through seven innings pitched. She allowed only one run in 14 innings as she improved to 9-3 on the season and has been a big part of the teams' success. Two of her losses this season have come against DI nationally ranked Crowder while collecting several wins this season against several DII nationally ranked opponents.
Baseball Athlete of the Week
COVID Freshman Palmer Hutchison from Hays, KS led the KCK Blue Devils to a perfect week, hitting two grand slams against conference opponent Highland. Hutchison had 14 RBIs, with 12 coming in conference games. Hutchison played a near perfect third base making only one error in six games.
Coffeyville Red Raven red shirt freshman center fielder Jayden Kay hit .608 this week, leading the Ravens to a 6-0 conference record on the week. Kay scored 12 runs and reached base in 19 of his 28 plate appearances. He also extended his hitting streak to nine games.
Seward County Saint Dylan Day started the second game at No. 11 Cowley College and received the win with six innings pitched and allowed zero runs on four hits. Day helped the Saints to the 6-0 victory over the Tigers with seven strikeouts in his performance from the mound. Day a freshman from Meadow, Texas has 4-5 record this season and has a 5.29 ERA.
