KJCCC Conference Athletes of the Week, Week 14, 2021
(KJCCC) April 28, 2021 – Big-time plays and days by our conference athletes have led to recognition in Week 14 of the KJCCC Athletes of the Week voting. Congrats to all the winners.
Football Athletes of the Week
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Pat Bowens, Independence
Pirate running back Pat Bowen rushed for 214 yards and three touchdowns as No. 9 Independence steamrolled Highland.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Daishon Folsom, Hutchinson
Blue Dragon defensive lineman Daishon Folsom was a force as No. 1 Hutchinson made life miserable for Garden City's offense in a 23-7 victory over the No. 3 Broncbusters. Overall, the Dragons had five quarterback sacks and eight more quarterback hurries. Folsom had eight total tackles, five were solo stops. Folsom had three tackles for loss, two quarterback sacks and two other quarterback hurries to power the Dragon defense.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Caleb Brickhouse, Hutchinson
Hutchinson Community College Community College freshman punter Caleb Brickhouse averaged 30.5 yards on six punts in No. 1 Hutchinson's 23-7 win over No. 3 Garden City. That punt average doesn't tell Brickhouse's entire story. For two quarters, Brickhouse had to put into a gusty 25 mph house wind – the game saw a minus 24-yard punt in the game because of the wind. Brickhouse had a key 40-yard punt into that wind that turned the field over with the Blue Dragons owning only a 17-7 lead. Those 30.5 yards were a net punting average.

Player: Dot Usher (Allen)
Dot Usher has showed to be a consistent goal scorer with having four hat tricks in 5 games. She is an all-around true striker holding the ball up well and being clinical in zone 14.
Goalkeeper: Paige Strausberg (Pratt)
Paige Strausberg had 11 saves against Hesston and two HUGE saves (one-on-one and deflection over the crossbar) to keep the clean sheet. Even had an assist after a long punt against Hesston. She did well to control the back line against Southeast CC and added her second clean sheet of the week.

Player: Corrine Hughes (KCK)
Corrine Hughes scored the first two goals of the game in nationally-ranked Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) midweek 5-1 win versus Coffeyville which included the game winning goal. On Saturday, Hughes got things going again with a crucial first goal of the 3-2 win at Nationally received votes Barton County. The KCKCC vs Barton game was a battle of top teams in the KJCCC.
Goalkeeper: Maggie Koster (Butler)Maggie Koster picked up here second win of the season when the Grizzlies defeated the Johnson County Cavaliers by a score of 2-0. It was also Koster's second shutout on the new season. Prior to the Johnson game, the Grizzlies and Koster were defeated at Coffeyville by a score of 2-1. Both goals came via direct free-kicks that Koster was unable to keep out of the goal. Koster has only allowed those two Coffeyville goals over her last 270+ minutes in goal.

Lashanna Graham, Barton
The Cougar hurdler broke a school record last week at the 2021 Don Kirby Tailwind Open. Graham won the 400-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 57.26 seconds. That ranks No. 1 in the NJCAA.
Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Ana Da Silva, Barton
Da Silva won two events at the Tabor College Open. She won the shot put with a top effort of 14.43 meters (47 feet, 4.25 inches) and the Hammer Throw with a toss of 55.76 meters (182'11).

Teagan Flanagan, Hutchinson
The Blue Dragon distance runner broke 32-year-old school record in the 5,000 meters with a Tabor College Invitational time of 14:35.28. That mark ranks fourth in the NJCAA. He also ran NJCAA qualifying mark in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:59.09.
Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Dennis Ohene-Adu, Coffeyville
In his first outdoor meet of the season, Ohene-Adu broke a Red Raven school record in shot put with a throw of 17.63 meters, which is currently third in NJCAA.
Division I Softball Athletes of the Week
Player: Macy Cesa-Spearman (Seward County)
Macy Cesa-Spearman had her best week at the plate with six hits on nine at-bats for a .666 batting average, five RBIs, and four stolen bases to help the Saints go 1-1 on the week. In the second game against Colby Community College Cesa-Spearman went a perfect 4-4 from the plate with four RBIs, and two triples in the 7-3 victory for the Saints. Cesa-Spearman has a .345 batting average this season and is the leadoff batter for Seward County.
Pitcher: Maddie Redman (Butler)
Maddie Redman, sophomore pitcher from Stillwell, KS, remains perfect in the circle picking up three more wins on the year improving to 16-0. Redman pitched 11.1 total innings allowing no earned runs on the week. She gave up just two hits, walked one and struck out 17 batters on the week. Redman is third in the NJCAA in ERA at 0.93 and has struck out 89 batters.

KJCCC Division II Softball Player of the Week
Savannah Maynard, Kansas City Kansas Community College Freshman Shortstop, Vermillion, OH
Freshman shortstop Savannah Maynard turned two pivotal double plays and had an impressive walk off single vs Neosho County during an 8-7 win in the second game of a doubleheader. She also had a diving catch up the middle in the top of the 6th inning vs Neosho. At the plate, she went 9-for-17 with five doubles, seven runs scored and five runs batted in as the Blue Devils went 4-0 on the week.
KJCCC Division II Softball Pitcher of the Week
Ashlynn Mercer, Cowley College Sophomore Pitcher, Tonkawa, OK
Cowley College sophomore Ashlynn Mercer tossed a no-hitter and did not allow a run in her two games pitched on the week. She struck out nine and walked only one in the five-inning no-hitter against Johnson County before tossing four scoreless innings in a win over Allen Community College. In the two wins, Mercer allowed only three hits in nine innings to go along with 13 strikeouts and two walks.
Baseball Athlete of the Week
Johnson County freshman outfielder Jackson Galloway batted .440 (11-for-25) with two triples, two home runs, 10 runs scored and 15 driven in for the Cavalier last week. He had multiple-hits in five of the seven games, and three multiple-RBI games, including five driven in at Neosho County and six RBI against Metropolitan. For the season, Galloway is batting .437 (59-for-135) with ranks fourth in the conference.
Kansas City Kansas freshman third baseman Palmer Hutchison turned another solid week leading the Blue Devils to a 5-1 week. He hit .571 (12-for-21) on the week with 11 RBI and 3 home runs while adding one double and one triple. Hutchison played a perfect third base with one putout and eight assists.
Johnson County right-hand pitcher Matt Ronnebaum improved to 7-0 on the season with a 4-2 win over Allen last week. He scattered seven hits over 6.2 innings, allowing two runs, one earned. He did not walk a batter and struck out six. He also lowered he league leading ERA to 2.58.
