KJCCC Conference Athletes of the Week, Week 15, 2021
(KJCCC) May 5, 2021 – Big-time plays and high-performance days by our conference athletes have led to recognition in Week 14 of the KJCCC Athletes of the Week voting. Congrats to all these winners cited below.
Football Athletes of the Week
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cortez Braham, Hutchinson
Blue Dragon sophomore wide receiver Cortez Braham became the first Hutchinson receiver since 2014 to catch three touchdown passes in a single game against Independence Sunday night. Braham's helped the No. 1 Blue Dragons to a 42-24 win at No. 7 Indy. Braham had career highs of six receptions, 141 yards and the aforementioned three touchdown catches. He scored on plays of 27, 56 and 7 yards. Braham's effort was part of Hutch's first 300-yard passing performance. The Dragons threw for 312 yards and amassed a season-high 512 yards for the game.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nickendre, Stiger, Butler
Nickendre Stiger, freshman defensive back from Wichita, KS, picked off Highland's quarterback twice Saturday night putting halt to the Scotties offense in the second half. Stiger also recorded six tackles and had a pass breakup in the Grizzlies 34-7 victory. This makes back to back week's that Stiger has recorded an interception as he had a pick six last week at Coffeyville.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Albert Nunes, Hutchinson
Hutchinson Community College freshman Albert Nunes set up a Blue Dragon fourth-quarter touchdown with a blocked punt in No. 1 Hutchinson's 42-24 win over No. 7 Independence.

Division II Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week
Player: Dot Usher (Allen)
Dot won the game on her finish in the first OT to keep us undefeated in the season. Her game winning goal also kept us first in the conference.
Goalkeeper: Pheonix Michaelis (Allen)
Pheonix came up big in both games with a break away against central and being strong off her line for a cross against pratt to shut out both teams. Holding her impressive stat giving up 1 goal in 7 games. She continues to organize her team mates in front of her very well.
Division I Men's Soccer Athletes of the Week
Red Raven freshman forward Miguel Da Silva led Coffeyville to wins over Johnson County and Dodge City on the week. Against Johnson, Da Silva had two goal and an assist in the 5-0 victory. Against Dodge City, Da Silva scored the game winner in OT to defeat Dodge 3-2. Da Silva is currently tied for top goal scorer with eight in the KJCCC DI rankings.
Red Raven freshman goal keeper Dominic Bombourg helped Coffeyville to gain two quality victories on the week. Starting with a four save 5-0 shutout against Johnson County and ending with a three save 3-2 overtime win against Dodge City.
Division I Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week
Player: Esther Karhayu (Hutchinson)
Hutchinson Community College sophomore forward scored three goals in a 2-0 week for the surging Blue Dragons. Had had two goals, including the game winner in a 3-0 Hutchinson win over the No. 20-ranked Barton Cougars. She added a goal on her only shot of the game in a 3-0 win over Neosho County. The multi-goal game against Barton was the second career multi-goal game for Karhayu. For the season, the Blue Dragon sophomore has scored four goals, two of them have been game-winning goals.
Goalkeeper: Kambrian Colborn (Hutchinson)
Hutchinson Community College freshman goalkeeper Kambrian Colborn pitcher her second career shutout, blanking No. 20 Barton Community College 3-0 last week in her only action in goal. Colborn made five saves against the Cougars and ran her record to 4-2-2 overall and 1-0-1 against Barton this season.
Division I Softball Athletes of the Week
Player: Madison Grimes (Hutchinson)
Madison Grimes, the leading hitter in the KJCCC and the second-leading hitter in the NJCAA, hit .750 for the week, going 9 for 12 in four games. Grimes added three doubles and a home run, which came in a 7-5 loss to No. 3 Butler. Against Pratt, Grimes was a combined 6 for 6 in a doubleheader sweep of the Beavers. In addition to her nine hits, Grimes scored nine runs, drove in four and stole two bases.
Pitcher: Kelcie Kippes (Butler)
Kelcie Kippes, sophomore pitcher from Rossville, KS, had a good week pitching for the No. 3-ranked Grizzlies. She picked up the win on the road at Pratt pitching 3.0 innings in Butler's 18-2 5-inning run rule win. She gave up no hits, no walks and struck out three. Kippes pitched two innings on Thursday in the Grizzlies 15-1 win over Independence. She gave up two hits, one run and struck out another three batters.

KJCCC Division II Softball Player of the Week
Kaylin Watkins, Johnson County Freshman First Base/Pitcher, Wichita, KS - Johnson County freshman first baseman/pitcher Kaylin Watkins batted .526 (10-for-19) with three doubles, three home runs, six runs scored and 12 driven in last week to help the Lady Cavaliers go 4-2 on the week.
KJCCC Division II Softball Pitcher of the Week
Kyla Etter, Johnson County Freshman Pitcher, Eudora, KS - Johnson County freshman right-handed pitcher Kyla Etter earned two victories last week, including a complete game win over No. 12 Labette. She allowed just two earned runs and struck out 12 batters. Her ERA for the week was 1.27. Etter is currently ranked second in the conference with an ERA of 2.61, and is fifth with 94 strikeouts.
Baseball Athlete of the Week
Remaining tied atop the KJCCC in wins this season, freshman Kolby Dougan threw his third complete game of the year while striking out eight to lead Cloud County to a 5-2 win over Dodge City in their series opener on Thursday. Lowering his KJCCC-best ERA to 2.43, Dougan is the only qualified pitcher in the conference to have an ERA below 3 and also holds the conference lead in strikeouts with 88 which ranks 15th among all NJCAA Division I pitchers.
Neosho County sophomore Andrew Brautman hit 619 (13-for-21) with a double, triple, five home runs, 14 runs scored and 15 RBI. He was a major factor in helping the Panthers win four of five games last week.
Braxton Hyde, freshman right hander from Liberal, KS, pitched a perfect game Saturday in the Butler Grizzlies 14-0 (5-inning) run rule over Labette to sweep the series. Hyde retired all 15 batters he faced in the game while striking out eight of them. No hits, no runs, no walks, no hit by pitch for Hyde. The first perfect game thrown in recent history for the Grizzlies.
