The No. 9-ranked Butler soccer team seems to have found their groove as they have won their last four games, all four being shutouts and have outscored their opponents 27-0.
Saturday afternoon from BG Products Veterans Sports Complex, the Butler soccer team picked up KJCCC win number four defeating Dodge City handedly 8-0 not allowing Dodge City to get off a single shot in the match.
Kenzee Godwin started the barrage of goals scored in the first as she dribbled past her defender breaking free and getting it past the keeper for the first score of the match in the 11th minute. It was then Kim McAlpine, who would finish with a hat trick on the day, burying two goals within minutes of each other giving Butler a 3-0 advantage.
Kenzee Godwin would strike again before the end of the half as she collected a great pass up field from Ellie MacDonald and then Morgan Fischer which gave her a one on one with the keeper who had no chance against the swift footed Godwin. Grizzlies carried a 4-0 lead into the break.
Even with a very small roster, Dodge City did a good job early in the second keeping the Grizzlies out of the net. It wasn't until the 71st minute that Butler put another on the board. Iyanla Bailey Williams received a corner kick from Brooklyn Hunter and sent it into the back of the net for the 5-0 lead. It was then Brooklyn Hunter's turn as she received a pass from Meghann Wingsutton and sent it into the back of the net past the Conq keeper.
With a 6-0 lead and less than 10-minutes remaining, the Grizzlies stayed on the attack. Kim McAlpine gathered up the ball in the middle of the field and proceeded to find Gabriela Staley, a Dodge City transfer, who scored goal number seven on the day for Butler.
Four minutes later, in the 86th minute of the match, the roles reversed as Staley found Kim McAlpine who fired on in completing the hat trick and giving Butler the 8-0 lead, which would end up being the final score.
Dodge City did not record a shot on goal or yet a shot throughout the entire match. Butler finished with 37 shots, 23 on goal scoring eight. All three goal keepers for the Grizzlies played but had zero action as no saves were recorded.
Butler (6-3-1, 4-0) will host Coffeyville (5-2, 4-1) on Wednesday, September 22 at 6:00pm at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
