The Highland women's basketball team lit up the scoreboard on their way to a 131-28 win over Bacone College JV and the 8
th win of the year for the number 2 team in Division II.
Highland stole the ball 26 times and forced 34 turnovers on their way to victory Saturday night in the final day of the HCC Scottie Classic. Highland's tenacious 'in your face' defense held Bacone to single digits in each of the four quarters.
Sophomore
Szonja Vukov recorded a double-double and led all scorers on the night with 27 points, 13 rebounds, six steals and four assists.
Ashlyn McDonald had her best offensive game of the year recording a double-double scoring 24 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Five other Scotties scored in double figures;
Mariane Carvalho 20 points,
Blaize Burgess 13 points,
Sidney Blackburn &
Niccolly Viscardi at 12 points and
Jameka Dowell with 10 points.
Highland out rebounded the Warriors 59 to 25 and held them to shooting only 19% from the line and allowing them only four free throws on the night.
The Scotties did a great job attacking the Warrior defense scoring 86 of their 131 points in the paint. The Highland bench also contributed 59 points on the night.
Highland (8-0), #2 ranked team in NJCAA Division II will travel to St. Mary University in Leavenworth, KS to take on the junior varsity on Monday at 7:00pm.
