Broncbusters cruise to four-set win over Pratt
Garden City, KS-The Broncbusters made quick work of Pratt on Wednesday night.
Carly Lang continued her strong stretch of play, recording 14 kills, Tola Maczka had 37 assists, and Garden City beat the Beavers in four sets 25-15, 25-11, 22-25, 25-10 at Conestoga Arena. The Broncbusters improved to 11-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
Julia Brazil added 12 kills and Vitoria Stedile had 19 digs for Garden City, which won its second straight match to move into a fifth-place tie with Butler in the Jayhawk West. They travel to El Dorado on Saturday.
In the first set, the Broncbusters broke open an 8-8 tie with a 15-5 run. Moments later, Lang pounded home a kill, giving Garden City the opening frame.
There wasn't much drama after that.
In the second, Patrick Hiltz's team used a 12-3 surge to break things open. Tola Maczka dropped in a service ace, Apollline Lepuissant added a kill, and the Broncbusters were up 19-10. Brazil then gave Garden City a commanding two sets to nothing advantage when she blocked a Beaver attack.
The only frustration for Hiltz came in the third set when his team blew a 17-10 cushion. The Beavers closed on a 15-5 run to make things interesting.
But it was completely one sided in the fourth.
Garden City scored the first four points; then built a 15-5 lead on Maczka's line-drive ace. They eventually stretched it to 14 on Lepuissant's crosscourt kill before the sophomore closed the match with a block at the net.
Lang had 12 digs, and Lepuissant added 12 digs and 10 kills for Garden City.
