DMACC volleyball team goes 3-1 in Neosho Tournament

The DMACC volleyball team ran its record to 18-13 with three wins in four matches in the Neosho Tournament Oct. 22 and 23 at Chanute, Kan.

 

The Bears opened tournament play with a 3-0 win over Coffeyville Community College (CCC) on Oct. 22 and then dropped a 3-1 decision to Neosho County Community College (NCCC) in their second match of the day. On Oct. 23, DMACC defeated Fort Scott Community College (FSCC), 3-0, and the Ottawa University junior varsity (OUJV), 3-1.

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Kylie Welch of Davenport had 15 kills and CoFR Anna Niehaus of Carroll came away with nine as DMACC defeated CCC by set scores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-13. Welch hit .517 with her 15 kills coming from 29 attacks with no hitting errors. The Bears hit .333 in the win, getting 37 kills from 90 attacks with seven hitting errors.

 

CoFR Sara Hansen of Hudson topped DMACC in assists with 26 and Welch and CoFR Morgan Tupper of Nevada had four and two ace serves respectively. Welch led the Bears in digs with 11 and Tupper came away with nine. CoFR Abigail Maue of Walker and CoFR Karlee Timm of Victor had three blocks apiece with each getting two block assists.

 

Niehaus had 10 kills and Welch added eight as DMACC dropped a 16-25, 22-25, 25-22, 17-25 decision to FSCC. The Bears hit just .139 in the loss, getting 41 kills from 151 attacks with 20 hitting errors.

 

Hansen again led the way in assists with 32 and CoFR Rachel Eddy of Dubuque led five players in double figures in assists with 21. Hansen and Tupper had 13 digs apiece, Welch came away with 12 and Timm had 11. CoFR Abigail Maue of Walker finished with seven blocks, including six block assists, and Niehaus and CoFR Abby Allmon of Norwalk had three block assists apiece.

 

Niehaus' nine kills and seven by Welch, Timm and Maue lifted DMACC to a 25-20, 25-15, 25-15 win over FSCC. The Bears hit .224 with 41 kills coming from 125 attacks with 13 hitting errors.

 

Hansen had a team-high 31 assist and Tupper contributed five ace serves with Timm getting three. Hansen also led the way in digs with 13. Eddy came away with 12, Tupper had 10, Welch finished with nine and CoFR Kassidie Galloway of Mechanicsville had eight. Maue had six blocks, including five block assists.

 

Niehaus had 20 kills and Welch added 17 as the Bears closed out the tournament with a 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22 win over OUJV. Niehaus hit .459 with her 20 kills coming from 37 attacks with three hitting errors. Welch hit .348 with 17 kills coming from 46 attacks with one hitting errors. As a team, DMACC hit .285 with 58 kills from 158 attacks with 13 hitting errors.

 

Hansen finished the match with 46 assists and Tupper had 20 digs with Eddy and Welch getting 15 and 13 respectively. Maue had five blocks, including four block assists, and Welch had four blocks, including three block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team closes out the regular season against Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) Oct. 27 at Norfolk, Neb. DMACC is 5-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). NECC is 9-21 overall and 4-4 in the ICCAC.
