The Highland women's basketball team hosted the Hesston Larks on Saturday afternoon ready to attack in their second meeting this season. The team had no trouble scoring another 100+ point game, holding the Larks to only 42.
The Scottie's five starters dominated the whole game each with double digit points while also contributing in every aspect of the game.
Szonja Vukov had a record breaking game as she became No. 1 in career points all time at Highland with 908. She had her 24
th career double-double, while continuing to add to her already #1 all-time career field goals made (353) and career steals (193). She scored 19 points with 10 rebounds and had five assists against the Larks. Freshman standout,
Mariane Carvalho, had an impressive 28 points and led in assists with eight, grabbing four steals, nine rebounds, and one blocked shot. Carvalho ranks #9 in points in a season with 448 and #7 in field goals in a season (183). She continues to lead the KJCCC in points per game with 19.5.
Jameka Dowell and
Blaize Burgess put up 13 and 17 points, each shooting 4-8 behind the arc and each recording four steals.
Niccolly Ramalho added 12 points for the Scotties, making 2-4 from three and had four steals of her own.
As a team, HCC controlled the boards, out rebounding the Larks 43-21, dished out 31 assists while the Larks had eight, kept their turnovers to 13 with the Larks at 33 and took the ball 20 times while the Larks only had two steals on the game.
The Scotties will travel to Kansas City, KS to face the KCKCC Blue Devils on Saturday, February 18
th with a start time of 2:00PM. HCC is now 22-3 on the year and 3-1 in the conference.
