Scotties come up short in final game of the season

The first two plays from scrimmage saw the nation's leading rusher, Marquis Terry, run for 15 and 39-yards down inside the Ellsworth red zone. Unfortunately, the Scotties would be stopped on the next four plays and would turn the ball over on downs on the Panther 4-yard line.

Ellsworth moved the ball 96-yards for their first score of the day on a 35-yard reception by Juwan Petit-Frere with 8:05 remaining in the 1st quarter.

The Scottie offense was unable to get much going in the first quarter being forced to punt on back to back drives.

The Panthers took a 14-0 lead at the start of the 2nd quarter on a Paris Chambers quarterback sneak from 1-yard out.

The next drive, the Panther defense forced yet another three and out forcing Highland to punt the ball. A bad snap on the punt would give Ellsworth the ball on the Highland 19-yard line.

It would only take three plays from there for Chambers to connect with Jason Jones for the touchdown and a 21-0 lead over the Scotties with 11:39 left in the 2nd quarter.

On the ensuing drive, Marquis Terry would break free and take it 78-yards for a touchdown, his longest of the season, and cut the Panther lead to only 14 with 11:39 remaining in the half.

A Panther punt would give Highland the ball at their own 31-yard line with 8:24 left in the half. a 34-yard reception by Demarre Kitt would get the ball into Panther territory. The next play, Tristan Speer threw a screen pass to Marquis Terry who took it 33-yards to the Ellsworth 1-yard line. Terry would punch it in from there for his 16th rushing touchdown of the season. Speer connected with Bailen Brumfield for the 2-point conversion and Highland now trailed 14-21 with 5:45 left in the first half.

The Scotties would force and recover a fumble on the following kickoff but would not be able to take advantage of it and Highland would trail by a touchdown at the half.

The third quarter was a defensive quarter as neither team was able to find the end zone.

Highland would force a Panther fumble early in the 4th quarter and take over on their own 44-yard line. The next play, Tristan Speer would connect with freshman Bailen Brumfield for a 55-yard touchdown reception. A failed 2-point conversion brought the Scotties within one 20-21 with 14:44 to play.

A pass interference call on the Scotties set up another Chambers to Petit-Frere touchdown with 11:10 to go in the game. Ellsworth now led 28-20.

A Tristan Speer interception gave the ball back to the Panthers with 6:45 remaining in the game. Ellsworth would take advantage of the turnover and knock down a 22-yard field goal to extend their lead to 11 with 1:43 to play in the game.

Highland tried to put together a quick drive to get points on the board but came up short and turned the ball over on downs. The Panthers would take two kneel downs and defeat the Scotties 31-20.

Highland would finish the season 7-4, the most wins in a season since 1994.
