JCCC explodes for 18 runs in cross-town win at Metropolitan

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 9-ranked Johnson Count baseball team exploded for 18 runs on 16 hits as they took down Metropolitan Tuesday afternoon.

Leadoff hitter Jake McClure doubled in his first two plate appearances and singled in his third and drove in two runs. He also reached base in the fifth after getting hit by pitch and scored all four times reaching base.

Boston Burce powered the middle of the line-up with two singles and four RBI. Chris Mancinas, Drew Veatch, Miken Miller and Jeremy Comer each collected multiple hits for the Cavaliers. Comer also drove in three runs, Miller had two RBI and Briggs Roe, Bo Shinkle and Carter Kelley each had a single run driven in.

On the bump left-hander Ian Fisher started for JCCC. He gave up three runs on three hits and struck out four over two innings of work. Ronin Vecenti, Colin Conrad, Max Waldschmidt, Blake Neis and Jackson Downing each pitched a scoreless inning in relief. Vicenti struck out the side in his inning, and Neis and Downing had two strikeouts each.

The Cavaliers (34-10) take on a West Jayhawk Conference opponent on Thursday, April 17 when the Dodge City Conquistadors (25-18) come to town. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
