INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - The Independence Softball team suffered two more losses Monday afternoon, as they fell to Labette 10-1 and 9-0 in a conference doubleheader.
In game one, it was a pitchers duel early as both pitchers were able to hang zeroes through the first two innings. Indy cracked the scoreboard first, in the third inning, as Kynleigh Henson reached on a walk and came around to score. The lead for Indy would be brief though as Labette immediately bounced back with five runs in the bottom half, followed by a single run in the fourth, before breaking it open for the run rule in the fifth with four runs. Taylor Nixon, Riley Hayes, and Maddison Wammock each had a hit in game one.
In game two, it was all Labette right from the jump, as rode the momentum of game one to a four run first inning. Indy struggled to get any offense going in game two, as Labette continued to put up runs with two in the second and three in the third on their way to another run rule victory.
Sarah Wrape and Bryndl Biggs had the only two hits of the game for Indy.
The Pirates will hit the road one final time on Thursday as they travel to take on KCKCC, and then will return home for their final games of the season as they host Hesston on Saturday for Sophomore Day.
