A back a forth battle all night saw the No. 3 Cavaliers coming out victorious over the No. 8 Scotties with a 63-54 win.
Highland jumped out to an early 17-12 first quarter lead but a less effective 2
nd would bring the Cavaliers within two at halftime.
The Cavaliers took their first lead of the game with 6:06 remaining in the third quarter after a jumper by Kyessence Collins. JCCC took their biggest lead with 6:50 left in the game as the spread the gap to 11. Highland kept chipping away at the lead and cut it to six with :48 seconds remaining. Highland fouls and Cavaliers would extend the lead to nine and end the game in favor of Johnson County 63-54.
Freshman point-guard
Blaize Burgess led Highland in scoring with 18 points knocking down four three-pointers.
Jameka Dowell was the only other Scottie to score double figures finishing with 15 points and five rebounds. JCCC held Highland's leading scorers
Mariane Carvalho and
Szonja Vukov to just five points apiece.
This is Highland's second loss to Johnson County and third loss of the season. The Scotties are now 21-3 overall, 3-2 in KJCCC play and 5-2 in Region VI. They will host Hesston College on Saturday, February 11 at 1:00pm in Ben Allen Field House. Highland defeated the larks earlier in the season on the road 100-31.
