Highland Cross Country Teams Compete at Region VI/Jayhawk Championships

Eager to compete the Highland men and women's cross country teams headed to Iola, Kansas last Saturday for the Region VI/Jayhawk Championships. 

The Scotties overall on the day left a bit disappointed as the Highland men finished ninth as a team and the women placed seventh as a team posting team averages of 28:27.98 and 22:33.58, respectively. 

Leading the lady Scotties was the performance of Evelin Santaclara who posted a time of 21:05.12 to finish in the Top 20 placing 19th overall and eighth in the Jayhawk East. De'Janay Davis finished shortly behind Santaclara placing 22nd behind a time of 21:23.88. Leah Wagner captured 32nd place with a time of 22:40.42, while Octavia Wright and Jennifer Lincoln each finished 42nd and 44th with times of 23:41.29 and 23:57.16. Tiana Bowen rounded out the Highland women's performances placing 51st with a time of 24:37.47. In the Jayhawk East standings Davis, Wagner, Wright, Lincoln and Bowen finished 11th, 15th, 21st, 22nd and 26th. 

For the Scottie men two of their top runners didn't record a time on the day for different reasons, while it was Javon Watkins pacing the Scotties by placing 27th with a time of 27:30.57 which was good for 10th place in the Jayhawk East. Joshua Camp and Ryan Ringer finished in the Top 50 in the men's race placing 38th and 42nd with time of 28:04.93 and 28:18.43, while Nick Cisneros placed 51st behind a time of 28:57.79. Liam Jones and Maxson Muenks each ran to times of 29:28.15 and 30:35.10 placing 60th and 70th, while Dario Ramirez and Jean Dieuvil rounded out the runners to record times for the Scotties as they finished 73rd and 81st behind times of 31:10.34 and 32:51.19. 

In the Jayhawk East Camp, Ringer, Cisneros, Jones, Muenks, Ramirez and Dieuvil posted finishes of 18th, 20th, 24th, 29th, 36th, 38th and 41st. 

Scotties will look to regroup and prepare for the National Championships which are set for Saturday, November 9th in Albuquerque, New Mexico which will wrap up the cross country season.
