Tiger men garner two new national qualifiers leading up to region championship

Preparing to host the Jayhawk Conference/Region Championships Thursday through Saturday in Arkansas City, the No. 7-ranked Cowley College men's track and field team had two new national qualifiers Saturday at the Tabor Invite in Hillsboro, KS.

The Tiger men, and No. 11-ranked Cowley women's team, had several personal best performances on Saturday and were led by Demetrius Rolle hitting the national qualifying standard in the 100-meter dash and Matt Higdon qualifying for nationals in the hammer throw.

Thursday's competition at the conference/region championship will begin at 1 p.m. Friday's competition will begin at 9 a.m., and Saturday's final day of competition will start at 10 a.m.

MEN

*100-meter dash – Demetrius Rolle, 10.61, 10^th, national qualifier.

*400-meter dash – Jeremy Garcia, 51.62, 22^nd; Joaquin Gonzales, 53.22, 36^th.

*400-meter hurdles – Micaleb Campbell, 1:05.49, 17^th.

*Long jump – Campbell, 17-9 ¾, 26^th.

*Shot put – Corey Morman, 42-2, 14^th; Caster, 34-10 ¼, 22^nd.

*Discus – Morman, 139-1, ninth; Jean-De Dixon, 114-3, 20^th; Simeon Faagai, 113-5, 22^nd.

*Hammer throw – Matt Higdon, 167-3, seventh, national qualifier; Morman, 145-3, 10^th; Faagai, 142-1, 12^th.

*Javelin – Nathaniel Hubbard, 131-6, ninth.

WOMEN

*100-meter dash – Shalai Dye, 13.52, 33^rd.

*200-meter dash - Dye, 28.52, 42^nd.

*100-meter hurdles – Chalee Hines, 19.19, 14^th.

*400-meter hurdles – Chalee Hines, 1:28.14, 14^th.

*High jump – Sydney Moyer, 4-10 ½, sixth.

*Pole vault – Kolby Caster, 14-1 ¼, third.

*Shot put – Channa Hines, 27-2 ½, 35^th; Sarah Robinson, 24-2 ¼, 39^th.

*Hammer throw – Caitlin Mannon, 133-4, 10^th; McKenna Markle, 116-3, 20^th; Sarah Robinson, 104-5, 27^th.
