Scotties unable to contain Red Ravens, lose 27-10 on the road

Highland Football suffered their sixth loss of the season 27-10, on the road to the Coffeyville Red Ravens.

The Scotties showed signs of life early forcing a three and out on the Ravens first possession. On the ensuing drive, the Scotties marched the ball down to the Coffeyville 4-yard line but were stopped when the field-goal attempt by William Solomon was blocked by the Ravens.

Coffeyville answered on a 22-yard touchdown reception from Aloyous Jackson to Juwan Ruffin.

A Highland fumble would give Coffeyville a short field late in the first quarter. The Highland defense held strong keeping the Ravens out of the end-zone but not off the scoreboard, giving up a 27-yard field-goal. Ravens lead 10-0 early in the 2nd quarter.

Coffeyville would get another field-goal right before the half, as Triston Bailey knocked down a 43-yarder with :04 seconds left in the half. The Scotties trailed 13-0 going into the locker room.

The Scotties weren't out of it yet and made it a one possession game after quarterback Naricuss Driver broke away for a 61-yard touchdown run. Extra point by Solomon was good and Highland trailed by six early in the 3rd; 13-7.

Later in the 3rd, after a Darius Johnson interception, William Solomon stared down a 23-yard field-goal attempt and drilled it down the middle, Highland was within three; 13-10.

It didn't take long for the Red Ravens to answer as they went 75-yards on five plays capping it off with a 51-yard rushing touchdown by Henderson giving them a 20-10 lead.

Early in the 4th quarter, a bad snap would lead to Coffeyville forcing another Highland fumble, this time returning it for a touchdown. The Red Ravens took a 27-10 with 14 minutes to play.

Highland was unable to piece together any significant drives and came up short to the Red Ravens losing 27-10.

Naricuss Driver led the Scotties rushing the ball 25 times for 131-yards and one touchdown. Justin Ruiz had 12 carries for 83-yards and Deontai Hull finished with 13 carries for 69-yards.

The Highland linebacking core led the defense Saturday night. Jeremiah Hill finished with 12 total tackles and 1.5 for loss. Fellow linebackers Kendrick Catis and Reco Hannah finished with 10 and 8, both also 1.5 tackles for loss. Darius Johnson and Javon Jones both had interceptions in the game.

Highland will play in their final game of the 2017 season this coming Saturday, November 11 as they take on non-conference opponent Ellsworth Community College. That game is set for a 1:00pm kickoff.
