Metropolitan Community College
The Central Community College softball team spent Saturday and Sunday in the Kansas City metro battling one team on the Kansas side and the other on the Missouri side. A recap of both double-headers is below. CCC is back in action on Monday with a double-header at Southwestern Community College in Iowa. Game times are at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Saturday vs. Kansas City Kansas Community College
The Blue Devils shutout the Raiders in both games. The final in the first contest was 17-0, while 12-0 was the final in the second game. Lilly Cast was the losing pitcher in the opener, while Larisa Rother was the losing pitcher in the closer.
Sunday vs. Metropolitan Community College
The Raiders picked up their first win of the 2021 season with a 13-10 victory in eight innings over the Wolfpack in the first game of the double-header.
The score was knotted 3-3 after three innings when MCC scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 6-3. CCC added a pair of runs in the fifth inning and three in the sixth inning to go up 8-7 after six innings. The Wolfpack scored a run in the seventh inning to tie the game at 8-8. The Raiders responded with five runs in the top of the eighth and was able to hold on for the 13-10 final.
Elle Douglas, Andrea Fernandez and Rother each belted home runs. In all, Douglas and Fernandez finished with four RBIs, while Rother notched three. Grace Cargill recorded a single RBI.
Cast was the winning pitcher.
The Wolfpack returned the favor in the second game with an 11-2 victory over the Raiders.
Metro scored three runs each in the first three innings and added two more in the fourth and coasted from there.
Douglas and Fernandez scored one run apiece for the Raiders in the fourth inning. Rother took the loss.
