
The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team swept the Cloud County Community College Thunderbirds with scores of 9-1 and 10-0 April 12. The run for first place in the conference standings is neck and neck as Neosho, Cowley and KCKCC are all tied for first place with a conference record of 11-1.
In the first game, Sidney Sullivan, Sydney Becker and Kinlei Boley all recorded two hits and combined for three RBIs and four runs. Becker had the only extra base hit as she hit her 12th double in the season. Kaitlyn Cowan went 1-3 from the plate with one RBI. Abryelle Hill batted ninth for KCKCC and had one hit and one RBI.
Alyssa Droge went the distance and allowed one run from seven hits. She struck out four and walked one of the 22 batters she faced. Droge currently leads the conference in five pitching categories. She leads with a 2.23 ERA, 18 wins, 148 strikeouts, 21 games started and144.1 innings pitched.
In game two, KCKCC recorded 10 runs from nine hits while scoring in every inning. Sullivan started out game two with a solo home run in the very first at bat in the game that hit the top of the fence and trickled over the wall to make it an early 1-0 lead. She finished the day 3-3 at the plate while adding four RBIs and scoring two runs. Russell had two hits, scored one run and had one RBI. Victoria England and Hill had one hit each with one walk, one RBI and scored two runs.
Boley threw for the entire game as she allowed no runs and just one hit in five innings. She walked one and struck out four of the 17 batters that she faced.
The next series for the Blue Devils is April 17 as they take on the first team in the KJCCC, Neosho County Community College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Chanute, Kan.
