The No. 19-ranked Cowley College men's soccer team demonstrated its offensive fire power by having seven players score in an 8-1 win at Garden City on Wednesday.
The Broncbusters had surrendered only four goals during its 3-0 start. However, Cowley scored three goals in the first 30 minutes of Wednesday's contest and never looked back in the 8-1 win.
"I told the guys we needed to kill Garden City's confidence early in the game and show them a level of intensity they had not faced before," Cowley head coach Ruy Vaz said.
Freshman Rafael Boaventura scored twice in the opening half and the Tigers exploded for five goals in the second half as they handed Garden City (3-1) its first loss of the season. Cowley is now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division.
Caique Trivelato scored Cowley's first goal, while other Tigers to score were Masaya Sekiguchi, Gabriel Verona, Kristian Eliasen, Murilo Ramos, and Alfonso Perez.
"The way we play allows so many players a chance to score and to showcase their talent offensively," Vaz said. These guys work so hard every day and are leaders on and off the field."
Sekiguchi blasted a shot past Garden City keeper Reece McGlynn early in the second half, while Verona and Eliasen followed with back-to-back scores within a 60-second span,
Tiger goalkeeper Rafael Furlani stopped four of the five shots he faced in the victory.
Cowley will play at Kansas City Saturday at 4:30 p.m. The Blue Devils battled Neosho to a double overtime tie in its season-opener played Wednesday.
"KCK is a physical team that will pose us a challenge trying to match their physicality," Vaz said.
