Tiger tennis teams capture region titles

Battling cold and windy conditions Friday and Saturday at the Region VI Tennis Championships in Great Bend, KS, the Cowley College men's and women's tennis teams did not let the elements affect them as they brought home a pair of Region VI titles.
The region title was the second in a row for the top-ranked Tiger men's tennis team, which did not drop a set while winning all six singles and all three region doubles titles.
"We came with the mentality of not only winning the regional championship but sweeping each of the singles and doubles," Cowley head coach Manuel Raga said. "We have been working super hard for the past eight months, and it is paying off right now. I am very proud of this team, and this is another step toward the ultimate goal."
The No. 2-ranked Lady Tigers got region titles from four of its six singles players and two of three doubles teams.
"I think we could have played better, but still very happy to win the region title," Raga said. "It's good we have time to work on things leading up to nationals."
The Lady Tiger tennis team will compete at the NJCAA Division I National Tennis Championships May 6-10 in Tyler, TX. The Tiger men's tennis team will take part in the NJCAA Division I National Tennis Championships May 15-19 in McKinney, TX.
