Nakajima’s late goal improves Tiger soccer team to 8-0
The No. 10-ranked Cowley College men’s soccer team found themselves in a battle Friday night against rival Neosho County. With the home game tied 1-1, the Tigers got a goal from Shunnosuke Nakajima with just over two minutes left. Cowley would make the lead hold up in the 2-1 win as they are now 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the Jayhawk Conference Western Division.

With the home game tied 1-1, the Tigers got a goal from Shunnosuke Nakajima with just over two minutes left. Cowley would make the lead hold up in the 2-1 win as they are now 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the Jayhawk Conference Western Division.
Nakajima's goal came off a corner kick by Mateo Jimenez. The goal by Nakajima broke the tie and was Cowley's first goal since Masaya Sekiguchi scored less than seven minutes into Friday's game.
"We dominated the game and never felt threatened," Cowley head coach Ruy Vaz said. "We created opportunities throughout the game, we just were not able to finish until the goal late in the game. But, the win is what matters and I was proud of the way the team fought until the end."
Cowley out-shot Neosho 15-2 as the Panthers fell to 3-3-3 overall and 1-3-2 in the Jayhawk East.
The Tigers will now prepare to play at Barton Community College Wednesday at 3 p.m. The Cougars (7-4) defeated Cowley twice in three meetings during the 2020 season.
"It is a healthy rivalry between us and Barton," Vaz said. "There have been some phenomenal games played in this series and we don't expect anything different on Wednesday."
