Saints lose at Cowley, season ends with playoff loss
ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. – The season is over for the Seward County Community College baseball team after another 11-1 run-rule loss at Cowley Community College on Thursday. The Saints were swept by the Tigers, 2-0, in the best two-out-of-three game series in the opening round of the Region Vi playoffs.
Seward, which also dropped game one on Wednesday by a score of 11-1 in a run-rule defeat, finished the season at 26-31.
It seemed like deja vu all over again for the Saints, who just like Wednesday's game, trailed early and could not come back. Cowley scored five runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead and never looked back. Seward tallied its lone run in the fifth inning on a Nathan Hopkins RBI single and cut the deficit to 5-1.
Cowley iced the game in three runs each in the sixth and seventh innings for the 11-1 run-rule victory.
The Saints could only muster four hits with two coming from Hopkins. Kotaro Wakui and Grant Cox each had singles to account for the other Seward two hits.
