Baseball Falls Short to Coffeyville
Ninth Inning Rally Comes Up Short
EL DORADO, Kan. – An early deficit was too much for Butler baseball to overcome on Tuesday at McDonald Stadium as they fell 7-6 to the Coffeyville Red Ravens.
Butler (23-18) saw Coffeyville (25-13) score one run in each of the first five innings.
The Grizzlies used a run in the third and four in the fifth to tie it 5-5 entering the sixth. The two teams were scoreless across the sixth and seventh before the Red Ravens scored two runs on a bunt in the top of the eighth to take a 7-5 lead.
The bottom of the ninth saw Butler threaten with two runners on and one out. Jaden Rose hit a deep sacrifice fly to right field to make it 7-6 but a groundout two batters later sealed the game. Each team tallied nine hits with the Grizzlies making three errors to Coffeyville's two. Elias Muller got the start on the mound for Butler throwing 5.0 innings allowing five runs on seven hits. Dayton Pelfrey threw 2.0 scoreless innings in relief and Bradyn McClure threw a scoreless ninth striking out two.
Cooper Rasmussen finished 2-4 with a two-run home run, his 13th of the season which leads the KJCCC West Division.
