Cavaliers rally for 9-6 win over Cowley, advance to region championship

SALINA, Kan. – Down five runs early, Johnson County rallied with four runs in the fifth and five in the seventh to for a 9-6 victory over Cowley Thursday in the semifinal of the Region 6/Plains District Tournament at Dean Evans Stadium in Salina, Kan. The Cavaliers will play for the championship on Friday at 4 p.m., against the winner of Cloud County and Cowley.

Easton Roe ripped two doubles and drove in two runs. Miken Miller and Carter Kelley each drove in two and Ryker Edwards had two hits including a solo home run to pace the Cavaliers.

Cooper Westra pitched four solid innings in relief to pick up the victory. The left-hander allowed one run of two hits with two strikeouts. Hudson Byrd followed with one and one-third innings of shutout relief with three strikeouts and Keston Holman got the final two outs to pick up his ninth save, which ties him for third most in a season.
