The Scottie Men's basketball team came back in fighting fashion after a tough loss last week. HCC came up victorious beating a 17-7 Johnson County team, 68-58. The teams came into the conference match up looking to prove their worth and the Scotties did just that.
Ryan Haskins, a freshman guard, led the Scotties once again this season hitting five three pointers and two field goals, totaling 19 points, making this his career high points, and best 3-Point Field Goal makes/attempts with 5-11. Freshman, Leland Harvey showed up to play as he scored 12 points in the first half, giving him a career high in points with 12 while also coming down with 4 rebounds. Dontre English dished out eight assists on the evening, pulled down six rebounds, and contributed nine points in the Scottie win. Andre Jackson led the HCC team with eight total rebounds.
The momentum was strong for the Scotties the entire game as they fought to the very end. They kept their turnovers to a low number of six, and had six more assists than the Cavaliers.
HCC is now 17-7 on the year and 3-2 in conference play, sitting currently in 3rd behind KCKCC and Fort Scott CC. The Scotties with compete against Region VI team, Hesston Larks (10-13, 1-6) on Saturday, February 11, in Ben Allen Field House in Highland, KS at 3:00PM.
