Lady Tiger softball team stumbles against the Ottawa JV
Facing an Ottawa University JV squad that entered Tuesday’s doubleheader with a record of 0-10, the Cowley College softball team hoped to build on its five-game winning streak. Unfortunately, the Braves shutout the Lady Tigers 2-0 in game one and slipped past Cowley 5-2 in the nightcap.

Facing an Ottawa University JV squad that entered Tuesday's doubleheader with a record of 0-10, the Cowley College softball team hoped to build on its five-game winning streak. Unfortunately, the Braves shutout the Lady Tigers 2-0 in game one and slipped past Cowley 5-2 in the nightcap.
Cowley is now 6-6 on the season, while the Ottawa JV improves its record to 2-10.
Ashlynn Mercer started game one on the mound and kept the game scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Braves scored a pair of runs on only one hit. Ottawa benefitted from a hit batter and an error in the inning.
Mercer (4-3) allowed only two hits and no earned runs in the loss.
Ottawa starting pitcher Skylar Alley allowed only four hits in the complete game shutout.
In game two, Cowley rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. Unfortunately, an error, a walk, and a balk in the inning contributed to Ottawa going back in front by a score of 4-2.
Ottawa would tack on another run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Lady Tiger freshman Kennedy Toothman (2-3) made the start on the mound in game two and allowed five runs in 4 2/3 innings pitched.
Trailing 5-2, Cowley brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the seventh inning in freshman Sydney Price. The right handed batter smacked a hard hit ball to the gap that was tracked down by the Braves' centerfielder to end the threat.
Tatyana Curry and Cierah Jones had two hits a piece in the defeat.
The Lady Tigers will look to bounce back when they return home to face Frank Phillips College (2-12) in a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. Prior to the start of the second game of the doubleheader, there will be a field dedication in recognition of former Tiger softball head coach Ed Hargrove.
