The Butler women opened up the 2014-15 season with a 65-47 home victory over Seminole State at the Power Plant on Saturday afternoon.
Butler (1-0) never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 20 points in the second half. Sophomore Ashley Gibson led all scorers with a career-high 25 points, while sophomore Kynadi Johnson also scored a career-high 14 points in the victory.
Gibson and Johnson helped the Grizzlies build a 31-18 halftime lead on Seminole, as the duo combined to score 22 of Butler's 31 points.
Leading 13-11 with under nine minutes to play in the opening half, Butler went on a 9-1 run to take its first double-digit lead of the contest.
The Grizzlies' lead peaked at 20 when Gibson's three-pointer from the top of the key with 3:48 remaining put Butler up 58-38.
Butler shot 45.1 percent (23-of-51) from the field and limited Seminole to just 21.7 percent (10-of-46).
Gibson, who shot 8-of-12 from the field and 3-of-4 behind the arc, previously had 23 points at Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa back on Dec. 8, 2012. Johnson's game-best was 12 in a Nov. 20, 2012 home win over Pratt.
Butler, ranked No. 9 in the NJCAA poll, will next play at Allen County on Monday at 6:00 p.m.
