Greyhound Softball Splits with Metropolitan Community College
The Fort Scott Community College Greyhounds softball team kicked off their 2022 season by splitting with Metropolitan Community College on Tuesday evening. The Hounds dropped the first game 14-10, but rebounded to take the next game by the score of 13-5.
Under cotton candy colored skies and wind gusts that reached above 30 mph during game time, the MCC Wolves and the Hounds battled through two hard fought games. The first game saw the Hounds make 5 errors and the Wolves capitalized with two three-run homers. Both of the big flies came with two outs, and two strikes in the count. In the end, the Hounds couldn't keep pace. Leading the way at the plate for FSCC was Avery Tittle who went 2 for 4 with a double. Brittany Winchester went 1 for 3, but hit a HR, picked up 2 RBIs, and scored 3 runs. The hounds collected 8 hits and 5 walks in the game, but left 4 on base.
The second game was a different story as freshman Emma Lang kept the MCC bats quiet. Lang pitched a complete game 6 innings allowing 2 ER and striking out 8 Wolves. Kenzie Howard led the Hounds at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a HR and 4 RBIs. Also collecting multiple hits in game two were Madison Lee (2-3, 3 RBI, 3 runs), Tittle (3-4, 1 RBI, 2 runs), and Kennedi Christian (2-3, 1 RBI, 1 run).
The Hounds will be at home next Tuesday the 22nd to face State Fair Community College at 1pm.
