Returning to action for the first time in a week, the No. 16-ranked Cowley College women's soccer team remained unbeaten with a 4-2 road win at Hutchinson Community College on Wednesday.
The victory improves Cowley's record to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division. Hutchinson falls to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
Cowley would score three goals in the first 20 minutes as they got goals from Jessica Meira, Elsa Pelicant, and Gabrielle Oliveria to lead 3-0.
"The first 20 minutes our girls executed as planned," Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos said. "We were able to press Hutch at their defensive half and finish the three goals.
Hutchinson would battle back and get goals from Hadie Lowe and Lani Dickinson to pull within 3-2 early in the second half. The goals were the first allowed this season in the Lady Tigers' five games.
"We let our guard down and let Hutch get back into the match," Dos Santos said.
However, Cowley sophomore Natalia Lima helped put the game away by scoring with just over 18 minutes left. Lima added a pair of assists in the win.
"Hutch is a very competitive team and better than their record shows," Dos Santos said. "I am happy for our team because it is always good to win on the road."
Cowley out-shot Hutchinson 17-7.
The Lady Tigers will now have another week off before hosting Monroe College Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Arkansas City High School soccer field.
