
SALINA, Kan. – The No. 2-seeded Johnson County Community College baseball team erupted for four home runs en route to a 13-0 five-inning run-rule blowout against Fort Scott in the opening round of the Region 6/Plains District Tournament Tuesday afternoon at Dean Evans Stadium in Salina, Kan.
Center fielder Bo Shinkle got the barrage started with a solo shot in the bottom of the first inning. Right fielder Ryker Edwards hit a solo homer and catcher Miken Miller hit a two-run shot in the fourth and shortstop Chris Mancinas blasted a grand slam in the fifth, his and the team's first of the season, to close out the game.
Leadoff hitter and second baseman Jake McClure doubled in a run in the third and came home on Miller's single, and Shinkle had an RBI single in the fourth.
Right-hander Josiah Golden picked up his 11th win of the season and 21st of his career allowing just two hits, zero runs, two walks and six strikeouts over five innings on the mound.
Johnson County (48-11) will take on cross-town rival No. 6-seed Kansas City Kansas (38-20) Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. The Blue Devils upset No. 3-seed Cloud County 8-5 in their opening game.
