YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Women's Basketball team (26-5) saw its seasons come to an end in the second round of the 2024-25 NJCAA DI Women's Basketball Championship, losing 72-52 to Dodge City (30-4) on Thursday afternoon in Casper, Wyo., at the Ford Wyoming Center.
Nyah Hardy and Rita Gomes each scored 17 points in the loss, while Mable Doumbia added ten points to finish the game as the Matadors' third-leading scorer.
The Matadors jumped out to a 20-15 lead in the second quarter before the Conquistadors used a 17-0 run to grab a 32-20 lead that the Matadors were able to trim down to 32-25 at the halftime break.
Arizona Western was held to eight points in the third quarter as Dodge City began to pull away, scoring 20 points in each the third and fourth quarters.
Both Doumbia and Gomes led the team in rebounds with seven, and Dyvine Harris led the Matadors in assists with three.
