Men’s Track and Field Nets 7th Place Finish at Region 6 Championships, Women 10th
Both Grizzly Squads Compete at Region Meet
COFFEYVILLE, Kan. – The Butler Community College track and field teams wrapped up their stay at Coffeyville's Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday at the NJCAA Region 6 Championships.
The Butler men finished tied-seventh out of 15 with Highland as both teams put up 47 points. The women came in 10th out of 14 squads with 29 points.
Hutchinson won the men's title with 135 points edging out second place Barton (127 points). Cloud County won the women's title with 197 points followed by Barton in second with 122 points.
Butler's track and field season will wrap up following the NJCAA Championships held at Hutchinson's Gowans Stadium from May 15th through May 17th.

Men's Results
Kamohelo Ramatsebe won the men's 3000m steeplechase running it in 9:07.39 to become the lone Grizzly to win a Region 6 title in an event. Alberto Torres followed him in eighth place (10:19.29).
Itumeleng Ngxabazi turned in strong performances in the men's 5000m and 10,000m. He ran 15:05.93 in the 5000m for a third-place finish and ran 31:10.21 in the 10,000m for a fourth-place finish. Sfiso Makolomakwa was right behind Ngxabazi in both events posting a fourth-place finish in the 5000m (15:06.34) and a fifth-place finish in the 10,000m (31:21.29). Ramatsebe came in seventh in the 5000m (15:15.76) and Bhekizulu Khumalo was seventh in the 10,000m (32:47.44).
The men's 4x800m relay (Cesar Pavia, Kamohelo Ramatsebe, Alberto Torres and Ainsley Campbell) came in seventh with a run of 8:02.32.
Ngxabazi led the Grizzlies in the 1500m as well registering a fourth place run of (3:59.27). Khumalo was not far behind in sixth (4:05.20).
Pavia came in ninth in the 800m (1:56.34) and Campebll placed 10th (1:56.48).
Ke'Vontae Walls-Burdine ran 48.84 in the 400m to finish in seventh. He ran a 21.57 200m in the prelims (12th place) but did not advance to the finals.
Women's Results
Elizabeth Hernandez had a Region 6 Runner-Up performance in the 5000m (18:33.04).
Alison Unruh posted a time of 41:28.76 in the 10,000m to come in fourth.
The women's 4x800m relay of La Tanya Johnson, Jennifer Casas, Valyrie Freeman and Alexa Marshall finished seventh (10:15.71).
Destiny Ponds had a javelin throw of 30.76m to finish in sixth.
Marshall led the Grizzlies in the 3000m steeplechase running it in 12:21.70 placing fifth.
In the women's 800m, Johnson came in sixth running 2:23.37.
