
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 21-ranked Johnson County softball team opened the 2025 postseason with a 9-1 victory over Fort Scott in the first round of the NJCAA Region 6 Division II Tournament.
Sophomore first baseman Aspen Burgardt, the reigning NJCAA D-II Player of the Year, went 3-for-3 with two doubles to drive in two runs for the Cavaliers.
Freshman outfielder Katie Kolarik belted a two-run home run and second baseman Jaylee Jefferson, third baseman Reagen Neitzel, catcher Maddie Murray, outfielder Hayley Bryant and DP Lily Hans each drove in one run.
Sophomore right-hander Jalin Lavers earned the complete-game victory allowing one run off two hits, four walks while striking out six over six innings. It was Lavers' 13th complete game of the season and 14th victory.
Johnson County will face Allen in the quarterfinals at 3 p.m., on Tuesday, May 7. The No. 7 seeded Red Devils upset No. 2 Neosho County 6-5in their opening round.
