Blue Devils Sweep Red Devils

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team played Johnson County Community College four times over the weekend, winning all four games with scores of 13-6, 13-6, 10-0 and 14-4. Currently, the Blue Devils are 28-28 overall and are in fourth place in the KJCCC with a conference record of 13-11.

In the first game, the Blue Devils put up five runs in the first two innings, eventually building a 9-0 lead. As a team, they had 13 hits and didn't make a single error. Both Ian Woita and Freddie Nolen IV had three RBIs each and combined for three hits and four runs. Woita hit a home run and Nolen IV recorded two doubles. Braden Horn had two RBIs from his one hit and walked once. Frankie Santiago and Cade Parry had two hits each and combined four runs and two RBIs.

Bryson Vawter recorded the win as he threw for five innings allowing just three runs from three hits. He walked three and struck out nine of the 22 batters he faced. Carter Beach threw for the final two innings and allowed three runs from three hits. He struck out three batters and let up three home runs.

For the second game, Santiago had a team-high four RBIs as he went 2-5 from the plate with a home run. Nolen IV also had a home run and went 3-5 at the plate with three RBIs. Marcus Dierks went 1-2 and knocked in two RBIs. Tanner Pachorek and Woita both had a double and combined for six runs.

Caleb Deer threw for the first six innings and allowed just three runs (two earned) from three hits and one home run. Deer struck out eight and walked four of the 24 batters he faced. Dylan Blazer finished the final three innings and allowed three runs (two earned) from three hits. He struck out five of the 14 batters he saw.

For the third game, Horn exploded for a 3-3 game while knocking in a team-high five RBIs. He also had the only home run for the Blue Devils. Both Woita and Parry recorded two hits each and combined for three RBIs and three runs. The two other hits came from Dierks and Santiago who combined for one run and one RBI. Woita had two doubles, and the other doubles came from Dierks, Santiago and Parry.

Caleb Reed went the distance and allowed only two hits. Reed didn't allow a single red Devil run and struck out seven of the 20 batters that he faced.

For the fourth game, the Blue Devils had 13 hits in their 14-4 win and were able to end the game early due to the 10-run mercy rule. Woita went 1-2 at the plate and had a team-high five RBIs with a home run. He also scored twice. Marcus Dierks went 3-4 at the plate and scored twice with a double. Parry went 1-2 from the plate and he had three RBIs from his double. Pachorek was the only Blue Devil who had six at-bats as he recorded two hits, one double with two RBIs.

Jake Titus threw for the first three innings, allowing one run from three hits. He walked and struck out three of the 16 batters that he faced. Gavin Killion recorded the win as he threw from innings four to seven. Killion allowed two runs from three hits and struck out two of the 16 batters that he saw. Caden Howell pitched the final inning allowing one run, one hit, one walk and two strikeouts.
