Tigers blow out 14th-ranked Dodge City, 143-104

Hitting a school-record 25 three-pointers and tying the school-record for points in a game, the Cowley College men's basketball team throttled 14th-ranked Dodge City 143-104 Saturday in W.S. Scott Auditorium. 

The Tigers hit 14 three-pointers in the opening half as they built a 66-46 halftime lead.  

Cowley's lead ballooned to 30 points (85-55) less than five minutes into the second half and the Tigers hit the century mark with 11:37 remaining. 

Cowley would lead by 40 (112-72) following a basket by Cevin Clark as they cruised to its largest margin of victory this season. 

Cowley, winners of four games in a row, is now 5-3 overall and 5-1 in the Jayhawk East. The loss was the first of the season for Dodge City, which is now 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the Jayhawk West.  

Tiger head coach Tommy DeSalme was pleased to see his team share the basketball as they finished with a season-high 33 assists. 

"We are making the passes now instead of holding onto the ball," DeSalme said. "Our ball and player movement has been a lot better the last couple games." 

Tiger sophomore Moun'tae Edmundson hit a season-high 10 three-pointers en-route to a career-high 34 points. While Clark added seven three-pointers and scored a season-high 30 points as Cowley went 25-60 from three-point range. 

"Moun'tae and Cevin are really playing well," DeSalme said.  

Dalen Ridgnal had his eighth straight double-double by halftime and finished with 21 points and 20 rebounds.  

"Dalen set the tone early defensively, and on the glass," DeSalme said. "When he plays like that it makes everyone else's job easier." 

Tiger freshman Raishaun Brown also filled up the stat sheet, finishing with 12 points, seven assists and six rebounds. 

"Raishaun continues to get more confident with our pace of play," DeSalme said.  

Dodge City, which went 3-of-24 from three-point range, were led by Waylan Napper's 31 points. 

Cowley's 77 second half points were only one point shy of another school-record. 

The Tigers will remain home to face another tough opponent on Wednesday when they take on Hutchinson Community College at 7:30 p.m. The Blue Dragons are 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the Jayhawk West. 

"We are excited to play them. There is always something special about Cowley and Hutch playing each other," DeSalme said. "Our fans were awesome against Dodge and we will need them again on Wednesday."
