Tiger tennis teams face stiff competition at Southwest JUCO Tournament

Facing off against several ranked teams that they will likely see at the national tournament, the Cowley College men and women's tennis teams took part in the Southwest JUCO Tournament held Friday and Saturday in Plano, TX.

"This was a very good tournament for both teams, they got to play with teams ranked in the top 10," Cowley assistant coach Arianna Raga said. "The experience from the tournament was exactly what the teams needed to now move onto nationals."

Sophomore Jack Clements suffered his first loss of the season, while fellow Tiger tennis players Takeshi Taco, Aymeric Bruno, Alejandro Orihuela, Javier Gonzalez, and Carlos Castillo each finished second in their respective singles brackets. The No. 3 doubles team of Castillo and Andoni Garmendia also placed second.

The Lady Tigers were led by Saara Kunakunova placing first in No. 4 singles.

"Overall, we are very happy with the results and we will keep working hard for the next three weeks to have both teams ready to perform at nationals," Raga said.

The Tiger tennis teams will play at Washburn University Thursday at 1 p.m. in Topeka, KS.
