COLBY, Kan. – The 17th ranked Butler softball team won a pair of games over the Colby Trojans on Saturday afternoon at Carl Adams Softball Field.
Butler (28-6, 17-5) won 4-2 in game one and 6-5 in an 11-inning affair in game two over the Trojans (27-20, 8-16).
Three first inning runs aided the Grizzlies in the 4-2 game one win. Butler finished the game with just six hits and added the fourth run in the top of the seventh inning. Chloe Odle (W, 10-3) earned the win throwing the first 4.0 innings allowing one run on two hits striking out three. Addy Ewing picked up her third save of the season throwing the final 3.0 innings. Colby finished with five hits in the game as Tess Polad scored both runs.
Game two was an extra inning affair stretching all the way to 11 innings. Grizzly pitcher Addy Ewing (W, 5-1) earned the win throwing the final 6.0 innings allowing no earned runs on four hits striking out three. Ellie Randall got the start throwing 5.0 innings allowing one earned run on four hits striking out three. Butler trailed 4-3 entering the seventh inning needing a run to keep the game alive and Kim Yepez delivered with a solo home run. The Grizzlies took a lead in the 10th off a Kory Schoenfeld RBI single but Colby added a run in the bottom half to tie the game. Kyrsten Moran gave Butler the lead for good in the top of the 11th on an RBI single as Butler won 6-5 in their third extra inning game of the season.
