Mistakes cost Garden City in road loss to No. 19 Barton
Great Bend, KS-Naya Danenberg and Phoebe Reyes each had 12 kills, Clara Lindstrom added 15 digs, and No. 19 Barton toppled Garden City in three sets, 15-25, 15-25, 18-25 on Wednesday night at the Kirkman Center. It was the Broncbusters third straight loss, dropping them to 6-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
"We made bad decision after bad decision with the ball tonight," Head Coach, Patrick Hiltz said. "When we followed the game plan, good things happened. But we didn't do that enough obviously."
It was a sloppy start for the Broncbusters, who were down 7-1 early in the first set. Then, after they rallied to pull within three, the Cougars closed on a 10-3 run to take a 1-0 advantage.
"Our block is all over the place right now," Hiltz explained. "But these are all fixable things."
It didn't help matters that sophomore Jelena Milovanovic was knocked out of the match with a hand injury.
"Hopefully she is not out for too long," Hiltz said.
Garden City kept things close in the second set before the Cougars blitzed them with an 8-4 run to open a 17-11 advantage. Once the Broncbusters closed to within three, Barton rattled off the final seven points capped by Reyes powerful spike down the line.
"We have a lot of things to fix," Hiltz stated.
Milovanovic's absence didn't help matters in the third set as the Broncbusters trailed by as many as eight points before a service ace ended the match.
Milovanovic led the way with seven kills for Garden City, which was swept for the second time in their last three matches. Tola Maczka had 21 assists, and Apolline Lepuissant added 13 digs.
