The MCC Wolves baseball team concluded their regular-season home schedule this week with a trio of games, including a matchup against a nationally ranked rival and a two-game series against St. Louis Community College.
MCC vs. Johnson County Community College
MCC faced a tough challenge on Tuesday against cross-town rival and 9th-ranked Johnson County Community College. After a rough start, the Wolves rallied with three runs in the second inning, highlighted by a clutch two-out, two-run double off the bat of Seth Mejia. Unfortunately, MCC's offense stalled after that, and they were unable to keep pace with JCCC. The Wolves ultimately fell by a final score of 18-3.
MCC vs. St. Louis Community College – Game 1
The Wolves got off to a rocky start in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader, giving up three runs in the opening inning. MCC quickly responded in the second with a four-run outburst, capped off by Chase Phillips' two-run single that gave the Wolves a 4-3 lead. St. Louis tied the game in the third, but MCC's pitching staff, led by starter Seth Mejia, clamped down from there—allowing just one hit over the final four innings. MCC regained the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth, which proved to be enough as the Wolves secured a 6-4 victory.
MCC vs. St. Louis Community College – Game 2
The second game of the doubleheader saw fireworks from both offenses. The Archers scored in each of the first two innings, but MCC answered by scoring in each of the first four. Chase Phillips continued his stellar day, delivering an RBI triple in the second and a two-run home run in the third. He finished with three hits, three runs scored, and three RBIs. STLCC mounted a comeback, scoring nine runs between the fifth and seventh innings, including a six-run outburst in the sixth, tying the game heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Wolves responded with late-inning heroics: Broxton Cole tripled and scored to regain the lead in the seventh, and Luke Meredith added an RBI triple in the eighth to extend the lead to 14-12. MCC's bullpen closed the door, holding the Archers scoreless over the final two innings to complete the sweep.
