Laparojkit qualifies for Nationals, 17th ranked Barton women’s golf finishes 5th in District #GoBarton

The 17th ranked Barton Community College women's golf team competed Region 6/Plains District Championships held at the Sky Ranch Golf Course in Sterling, Colorado.

With a temperature change and high wind conditions sweeping through the opening round ballooning scores upward amongst the field, Barton finished the day in 4th place with a 69-over 357. Day two brought calmer and warmer conditions but the Cougars were unable to capitalize in seeing its ten stroke lead evaporate by carding a 63-over 351 in sliding down a spot to the 5th position by one stroke at 132-over 708.

Region 6 member and No. 9 ranked Dodge City won the title at 69-over 645 to win by sixteen strakes over 14th ranked North Idaho's 85-over 661 as 15th ranked Garden City placed 3rd at 96-over 672. Placing 4th to overcome the Cougars, 21st ranked Central Wyoming shaved twenty-five strokes off their opening round to compile a 131-over 707 while 20th ranked Eastern Wyoming rounded out the teams at twenty-one strokes behind Barton with a 153-over 729.

Chomchanok Laparojkit led Barton with a tie for 9th place at 21-over 165, opening with an 81 in tough conditions but dropping four spots with a final round 12-over 84.

Two Cougars finished in a tie for 19th at 36-over 180 of the 24-competitor field, Frida Medellin vaulting five spots up the final round leaderboard following a 22-over 94 with an eight stroke improvement of 14-over 86 while Joellen Vogt stayed consistent with twin 18-over 90 cards.

Diana Alvarado was next on the board in 22nd at 39-over 183 following 20-over 92 and 19-over 91 rounds as Giovanna Tabanag rounded out the Barton entries in the 29th spot at 50-over 194 in carding 26-over 98 and 24-over 96 cards.

For Laparojkit, the freshman will carry the Barton flag for the 14th straight program appearance into the national tournament competing at the NJCAA Division I National Championships held May 12-15 at Garden City's Buffalo Dunes Golf Course.
