Barton golf places 4th at Jayhawk Conference Championship #GoBarton

The Barton Community College men's golf team placed 4th overall Tuesday at the Jayhawk Conference Championship held the last two days at Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan.

The Cougars are back on the course next Monday in the two-day Region 6 Championship held at Newton's Sand Creek Station Golf Course.

Barton opened and finished the three-round tournament strong, posting a morning 316 on Monday with a 325 afternoon card followed by its best 25-over 313 in Tuesday's final round to accumulate a 90-over 954 result.

Two Cougars finished in the Top-20 of the 38-man squad as Kaleb Lambert and Martin Chevallier each chalked up six birdies from the three-rounds finishing in the 19th position at 20-over 236. Lambert's first day of action carded 79 and 84 rounds before posting the field's 5th best final round score of 1-over par 73 to move up six spots. Chevallier's placing took a different path after posting consistent 77-78 Monday card but dropped five spots on Tuesday with a closing 9-over 81.

Two strokes behind in 22nd was Ted Gemzell at 22-over 238, posting twin 81 rounds before draining four of his team leading seven birdies during the final round to post a 4-over 75 in moving up two spots.

Opening with a 79, Wintakorn Suwanmuang followed with near identical 82 and 83 cards to place 27th overall at 28-over 244.

Talon Reynolds was next in 29th place at 34-over 250 on a trio of 80 cards, 85 and 84 on the backend of his three rounds with an 81 from Monday's afternoon round in playing thirteen of the holes even par.

Two strokes in 30th place at 36-over 252, Mason Moore tied for the team leading seven birdies, carding three of those in each of his first and last rounds leading to an 84 and a final round of 78 on either side of Monday afternoon's 90 card.

Matteu Cauvin-Piacentini played through an injury in his first round but had to withdraw from competition leaving the Cougars scoring with just four team members.
