After opening the season with nine straight wins, the No. 3-ranked Cowley College men's soccer team is experiencing its first taste of adversity after suffering its second straight loss. The Tigers scored first in its game at Barton County on Saturday before the Cougars scored three unanswered goals to win 3-1.
After a scoreless first half, Cowley scored its lone goal when Alvaro Gabancho scored unassisted five minutes into the second half.
The score would remain 1-0 until Barton scored three goals in the final 15 minutes to improve its record to 7-2-1 on the season. Cowley is now 9-2 heading into the postseason.
"Barton deserved the win, they had more desire throughout the entire game," Cowley head coach Ruy Vaz said. "We had some moments of brilliance but we were not able to capitalize."
Cowley will now prepare to host Johnson County (2-9) Wednesday at 3 p.m.
"We have to flip the switch and focus on a very tough Johnson team," Vaz said. "It will be a great game to watch."
