Droge Allows One Hit in Shutout Win

The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team took down the Southwestern Community College Spartans with score of 7-0. Due to weather, the Blue Devils and Spartans were only able to play one game as they were scheduled for a double header.

While the Blue Devils put up seven runs, they only recorded four hits. A lot of runs came from the seven Spartan walks. In the bottom of the fifth, up 3-0, Kaitlyn Cowan started things off with a walk, and Paige Smith entered the game to pinch run for her. After a few failed bunt attempts, Ashton Russell got one down in fair play. The Spartan pitcher grounded it and successfully got Russell out at first base for the force out. The first baseman then tried to get Smith out at second base, but the ball was mishandled and Smith was able to advance to third base. With Smith on third, Kinlei Boley hit a deep shot to deep centerfield making it 5-0 in favor of KCKCC. That was her third homer of the year. With the bases loaded and one out, Kloey Dawes stepped up and put a line drive to left field scoring Lilea Prahm from third, making it 6-0. The Blue Devil scoring concluded with a Sidney Sullivan sac-fly to left centerfield, scoring Kylie Vandervoort from third base.

Alyssa Droge went the distance and only gave up one hit. She struck out six of the 24 batters that she faced. Both Droge and Sullivan won the Week 9 KJCCC DII Softball Pitcher and Player of the week after going 8-0 last week.

The next series for the Blue Devils is April 3 as they host the Fort Scott Community College Greyhounds at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the KCKCC softball field.
