Red Raven Baseball Sweeps Butler in Opening Round to Advance to Second Round of Region 6 Tournament

The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Baseball Team swept the Grizzlies of Butler out of the Region 6 Tournament by defeating them 9-1 and 8-3 in the first two games of a best-of-3 opening round series. 

With the opening round victory, the Red Ravens will advance to the second round of the Region 6 Tournament, with the remaining rounds of the Tournament being played at Dean Evans Field in Salina, KS.  The remaining rounds of the Region 6 Tournament will be a double elimination bracket with the #8-seeded Ravens scheduled to play #1 seed Barton on Tuesday, May 13th at 4:00 p.m. The Full Region 6 Tournament bracket can be found HERE!

Coffeyville came to play against Butler in the opening round. 

The Red Ravens defeated Butler 9-1 in the series opening game behind an excellent start from Red Raven sophomore righty Cross Dowd.  After allowing a first-inning run, Dowd settled in, going 7 innings, allowing just the one earned on 4 hits while striking out a season high 11.  Offensively, Coffeyville pounded out 14 hits in the game, led by sophomore second baseman Landin Midgett, who had 3 hits and scored 3 runs, and freshman DH Shawn Bareno, who also had 3 hits along with 4 RBIs.

Game #2 of the series was tight through five with Butler holding a slim 3-2 lead heading into the sixth inning, however, the Ravens came alive in the sixth, scoring five runs to blow open a four-run lead.  Coffeyville tagged on another run in the seventh, and the Ravens had the 8-3 victory.  Red Raven sophomore righty Jackson Waggoner started for Coffeyville, going 7 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits in the victory.  Landid Midgett again powered the Red Raven offense with 3 more hits (over the two games, Midgett was 6 for 7 and scored 5 runs), while sophomore shortstop Nathan Cruz had 2 hits and 3 RBIs.

Coffeyville heads to the second round where they will face the Barton Cougars on Tuesday, May 13th at 4:00 p.m. at Dean Evans Field in Salina Kansas.
