EL DORADO, Kan. – The offense was clicking for the 16th ranked Butler softball team in a sweep of Garden City on Wednesday at East Park.
Butler (32-6, 21-5) totaled 40 runs across the two games taking down the Broncbusters (22-18, 14-12) 22-3 and 18-4 to avenge a loss to Garden City earlier this season on the road.
An 11-run third inning for Butler was the backbreaker for Garden City in game one as the Grizzlies finished with 23 hits in the game. Eight Grizzlies had multiple hits while starting pitcher Ellie Randall (W, 11-1) struck out six in 4.0 shutout innings. Garden City made five errors in the game helping to keep the Grizzly bats on the field. Freshman outfielder Kyler Demel hit two home runs in the fourth inning, the first two of her collegiate career.
Garden City scored first in game two with a solo home run in the top of the second. Butler answered with seven runs in the bottom half and never looked back, also adding nine runs in the fourth inning on the way to the 18-4 win. Graci Hock drove in a team-high four runs while Chloe Odle (W, 11-3) and Addy Ewing combined to hold Garden City to four hits.
