
Seck's Career High Help's Defeat No. 14 Dodge
The No. 7 T-Birds defeated No. 14 Dodge City 84-66 after leading by as many as 20 points in the contest.
The T-Birds trailed 10-2 halfway through the first quarter. Dodge City extended the lead to 13-4 at the 3:45 mark to reach their largest lead of the game. The Thunderbirds responded with a 12-2 run to grab the lead, 16-15, with 47 seconds to go. The Conquistadors finished the first quarter with a 17-16 lead over NMJC.
The second quarter was back and forth with NMJC holding a one-point lead, 33-32, with under 2:30 to go in the half. The T-Birds outscored the Conqs 11-5 the rest of the way to go into the break in front 44-37. The first half featured nine lead changes and four ties.
The Conquistador reached within three points, 53-50, with a little over two minutes to go in the quarter. The T-Birds got hot at the end of the quarter and went on an 8-1 run to close the period and hold onto a nine-point lead, 61-52. The T-Birds controlled the fourth quarter as the Conqs were held to 33% from the field and scored 14 points compared to NMJC's 23. The Thunderbirds went on to win the game by 18 points, 84-66.
Sophomore guard Fatime Seck scored a career-high 17 points going 5-of-11 from 3-point land and tallying five rebounds. Pania Davis recorded 17 points, 16 rebounds, and six blocks in the 18-point win. Forward Amyah Sutton registered 13 points. Sutton and Davis both went 9-of-9 from the line to combine to go 18-of-18 at the stripe.
Cacia Antonio finished with 16 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Kaycee Steinke went 2-for-2 from beyond the arc and finished with eight points. Emma Najjuma grabbed five rebounds.
The T-Birds shot 24-for-62 (38.7%) from the field, 11-for-23 (47.8%) from the 3-point line, and shot an astounding 25-of-27 (92.6%) from the charity stripe. The Thunderbirds forced 15 turnovers and held the Conquistadors to 40.0% from the field and 27.8% from the three-point line.
The No. 7 Thunderbirds move to 3-0 on the season and will play Bishop State on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 12 p.m. CST in Odessa, Texas.
