In a battle of two of the top teams in the Jayhawk Conference, the No. 6-ranked Cowley College men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals in the second half of its game at Neosho County on Saturday to remain unbeaten with a 3-1 win.
"It was a good win," Cowley head coach Ruy Vaz said. "We controlled the game, especially in the second half. Neosho is always a difficult game, but we got the job done."
Cowley improves its record to 6-0 in the conference, while Neosho falls to 4-2.
After a scoreless first half in Saturday's game, Cowley needed only two minutes into the second half to grab the lead as the Tigers got an unassisted goal from sophomore Alvaro Gabancho. Antonio Peruchi Marra added a pair of goals to make the score 3-0 before the Panthers got a late goal from Guilherme Oliveira.
Freshman goalkeeper Shuma Kawabe stopped six of the seven shots he faced in the victory.
Cowley will play at Garden City Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Broncbusters (0-6-1) lost at Cowley by a score of 8-1 back on April 5.
"They know how we play so I expect a good battle," Vaz said.
