Baseball Finishes Regular Season with Statement Games

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team took down the No. 3 Cowley College Tigers in both games May 3 at the KCKCC baseball field with scores of 4-1 and 18-10. After those results, the Blue Devils will enter postseason play as the No. 6 seed and will host the No.11 Dodge City Conquistadors this week for the opening round of the 2025 Plains District Tournament.

In the first game, the Blue Devils jumped to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning. Marcus Dierks and Frankie Santiago both got on base, and Ian Woita stepped up and knocked them in with a groundball through the left side of the field. Braden Horn went 3-3 with three doubles and brought in one RBI from his hard-hit ball to centerfield in the first inning, scoring Woita from first base. With Horn on second base, Parry stepped up and hit a blooper to right field on the very first pitch, scoring Horn and making it 4-0.

Caleb Reed recorded the win as he threw for the opening four innings allowing just one run from two hits. He struck out four and walked four of the 20 batters that he faced. Gavin Killion finished the game out and allowed no runs and two hits while striking out four of the 12 batters that he saw.

For the second game, KCKCC had 18 hits and was able to score 18 runs. Dierks went 4-5 from the plate, adding four RBIs and scoring twice. Freddie Nolen IV exploded in game two as he went 4-6 from the plate as he had two doubles and a home run while knocking in a team-high seven RBIs. Colton Kirkham and Spenser Smock each had two hits and combined for three RBIs.

There were four Blue Devil pitchers who threw in game two. Jake Titus threw in the first inning allowing six runs from two hits and six walks. He struck out one and let up one home run. Dylan Blazer threw for 4.2 innings allowing just two runs from three hits and two walks. Carter Beach was up next, throwing for 1.1 innings while allowing two runs from three hits. Caden Howell closed things out in the final two innings, shutting the Tigers out to no runs and no hits.

The opening game of the best two of three series against the (11) Dodge City Conquistadors will be at 1 p.m. May 7 at the KCKCC baseball field. The series will continue the following two days at the same time.
