Four games into the season, the No. 19-ranked Cowley College women's soccer team has yet to surrender a goal. However, the Lady Tigers have had no trouble finding the back of the net themselves, including scoring a season-high nine goals in a 9-0 win over Dodge City Wednesday at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, KS.
Lucia Fernandez got Cowley on the board first as she scored only 11 minutes into Wednesday's contest. Two more goals by sophomore Manuela Oliveira over the final 10 minutes of the half, helped the Lady Tigers to a 3-0 halftime advantage.
Cowley out-shot Dodge City 12-1 in the opening half and continued the barrage over the final 45 minutes of play.
"We did not play our best, but dominated Dodge City from end to end," Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos said.
Only five minutes after halftime, sophomore Natalia Lima scored back-to-back goals in an 11-second span. Just 19 seconds later, Jessica Rincon got in on the fun as she scored to make the score 6-0.
"That killed any hope Dodge City had," Dos Santos said.
Cowley would get additional goals from Pauline Goeckeritz, Florencia Campodonico, and Nanako Seki to cap the 9-0 win.
"Things took off for us in the second half and we were able to play everybody in the win," Dos Santos said.
Cowley out-shot Dodge City 19-2 as they improved to 3-0 in the Jayhawk Conference Western Division.
"Our defense is doing a phenomenal job," Dos Santos said. "Lucia (Fernandez) has excelled in the midfield in terms of holding the line."
The Lady Tigers (4-0) will look to remain unbeaten when they play at Johnson County Saturday at 2 p.m. The Lady Cavaliers are 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division.
"Johnson County is always a good test for us," Dos Santos said. "We expect it to be a battle."
