EL DORADO, Kan. – Coming off a strong showing on Sunday, Butler baseball was able to secure a series win over the Seward Saints as they split on Monday and Butler took three of four.
Butler (20-15, 12-8) dropped an extra inning affair 7-5 in 10 innings in game one but answered with a 12-5 win over Seward (16-23, 3-13) in game two.
The Grizzlies picked up their 20th win of the season in game two and are now in fourth place in the KJCCC West sitting behind first place Barton (16-4), second place Cloud County (15-5) and third place Colby (10-6).
Butler plated two sixth inning runs to tie the game 5-5 off a Brandt Beeby two run home run which eventually forced the game into extra innings. The two teams were scoreless over the seventh, eighth and ninth innings but Seward used a two-run home run in the top of the 10th to guide them to victory. Grizzly starting pitcher Caden Hinther threw 5.0 solid innings allowing four runs on four hits striking out six and walking none. Bradyn McClure threw 3.0 innings of one run baseball in relief, striking out three but Jack Haag (L, 0-2) was hit with the loss allowing two runs on five hits across 1.1 innings of work.
Six runs in the fourth inning gave Butler a 9-4 lead which helped them to the 12-5 win in game two as they secured the series win. Butler proceeded to use three insurance runs in the sixth as they pounded out 10 hits in the win. Beeby's bat stayed hot as he was 3-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Kaleb Nye was 2-3 with three RBI to aid Butler's offense. Kage Ralstin got the start and tossed 3.2 innings allowing three runs on four hits. Connor Robinson (W, 4-1) got the win throwing the final 3.1 innings allowing two runs, striking out three and walking none.
